Famille Trahan

Volume XI                        ENSEMBLE ENCORE              Winter Issue 2009

Gathering scheduled for November 14, 2009

The Famille Trahan will co-host the upcoming Gathering with Famille Beausoleil, and CAFA at the Woodmen of World Hall in Maurice, Louisiana on November 14, 2009.  CAFA will conduct its annual meeting commencing at 9:00am and concluding by 10:00am. The Broussard and Trahan Gathering will begin 10:00am , and will conclude no later than 1:30pm.

On the agenda will be informative debriefing on Congre’ Mondial 2009, including the pros and cons of this event, and suggestions for a better event in 2014. Ray Trahan of CAFA will give a short briefing on location of Congres Mondial 2014, and why that site was chosen

Following Ray Trahan, Loubert Trahan will discuss current happenings and planned events that are forth coming; Loubert will also answer any questions that the Gathering may present.

At the conclusion of Loubert's coverage, the event will be turned over to Corwin Broussard and Corwin will, like Loubert, discuss recent events, current events, and upcoming events.

Following some scheduled Awards, presentation of door prizes, and questions and answers from Gathering, a meal of Gumbo will be available to those desiring to dine with group.

This meal, as with past meals, will cost $10 per person for all those over age 10 years; note that 10 years and younger still eat free.

Note that RSVP is required for those who plan to eat, and the RSVP should be made by no later than November 10, 2009.

The RSVP’s, either by e-mail or telephone, can be to any of the following: whiskey6@cox.net, lgtrahan@cox.net, crbrouss@bellsouth.net, or telephone (337)989-0319 or (337) 288 0677, or (337) 984 3752.

I would note that as in the past, we welcome any and all desserts from those attending able to bring them, and our thanks in advance!

 Bits and pieces
By Loubert Trahan

Louisiana’s Bid to host Congre Mondial in 2014 fell short of our expectations, and we unfortunately failed to get the Award. Needless to say, all of us, especially all those who worked many long hours preparing briefs, tours for the Committee from Canada, and traveled a great deal to insure all details were covered.  I think we owe Ray Trahan and his group a big round of applause for their efforts, and a large thank you.

In March of 2010 we will once again be visited by a group from France, lead by Marc Gerard Braud. While we have their travel agenda, we are not yet certain as to their plans while in this area and between there scheduled agenda.

I will post on Trahan Web Site any additional information as it becomes available.

Some genealogical thoughts
The Trahan CD has recently been updated to 2009, and includes updates from Drouin Books of Canada, and the latest Father Hebert South West Louisiana Records (1910-1917). The CD is available at the genealogy table, and the cost is still $75; I might add, that the Broussard CD also updated, is also available at the same price as the Trahan CD.

Also at the Genealogy Table are replicas of the 3 generation Trahan Chart; these replicas sell for $10.

Note: I would encourage all our members to our schools. I suggest a way to support the schools without donating money, and with little time involved.

I refer to BOX TOPS for Education, printed on packaging of the following products: Kleenex, Pillsbury Products, Betty Crocker Products, Cherrios, Green Giant Products, Zip Lock Bags, Scott Paper Products, Huggies, and Hefty Products.  Also Campbell Soup Labels support schools, and many of you already purchase many of these items.  The labels from Swanson products, including labels from their Chicken, Vegetable, and Beef Broth cans.
